Antique Meissen plate Braunsdorf
Antique Meissen plate Braunsdorf
Description
Antique Meissen plate decorated by Professor Julius Eduard Braunsdorf who worked at Meissen from 1858 until 1906 and is famous for the most beautiful and real looking flowers at Meissen if not anywhere! Prof. Braunsdorf studied at the Art Academie in Dresden before coming to Meissen and is among the most important floral painters ever. This plate is a perfect example of his work and these types of plates are very rare and hard to find. The entire plate is hand painted with a chocolate / dark brown ground with flowers and blossoms in different stages and these look real enough to want to grab and eat them. The nicely shaped rim has three bud and blossoms in full bloom on it as well as a nice gold trim to the edge. The plate is in perfect condition with the tiniest of wear to the gilding, basically none at all and one small spot of wear in the brown ground but the white does not come through. It is marked with underglaze blue crossed swords mark underneath as well as an impressed 3. This beauty is 8.125 inches in diameter.
